Steel is iron that is combined with other elements such as carbon, manganese
and silicon. It falls into one of two families: carbon steel or alloy steel. Alloy
steels contain added elements that cause the steel to exhibit enhanced properties
when heat treated.

responds well to heat treatment.
Its chromium content provides good hardness
penetration, & the molybdenum imparts uniformity of hardness & high strength.
In the annealed condition it machines at 110 sfm.
Other desirable properties
include good wear resistance, excellent toughness & good ductility in the
quenched & tempered condition.

Annealed "Cold Rolled" |
The addition of lead to this grade permits the production
of some 25% more parts with excellent finish & good tool life.
Machine-ability
is raised to 145 sfm.
Like 4140 annealed, it responds well to heat treatment
with good strength & wear resistance, excellent toughness, good ductility
in the quenched & tempered condition.

Heat Treat is a general purpose alloy, normally .95% chromium & .20% molybdenum.
It has good hardness penetration, strength, toughness, & ductility.
Rockwell 28/32C type. Heat Treat Condition 28/32c. 8620
is the most widely used carbonizing alloy.
Its nickel content imparts good
toughness & ductility.
The chromium & molybdenum increase hardness
penetration & wear-ability.
This steels well balanced alloy content permits
hardening to produce a strong tough core & high case hardness. It machines
at 110 sfm & has good welding |

Sheet is carbon steel sheet coated with zinc on two sides by the continuous hot-dip

is in contact with the molten zinc. |

fabrication. This process is reversible and the products can be reprocessed and
remoulded. |
